Independent Writing: Type 2, Steps 1 and 2

There are several types of questions or prompts. Now to the second type.

Type 2: A variety of questions. There are lots of different types here like qualities, causes, reasons, etc.

Now, let’s do steps 1 and 2.

Step 1 is brainstorm and choose 2. Don’t forget when you choose your 2 ideas that you go with what you know.

Step 2 is to create the thesis statement. Let’s practice creating the thesis statement. Here are our rules:

To create the thesis statement, follow these 3 steps:

1.Delete the wh question. If there is no wh question, go to step 2.

2.Delete do/does or did OR move am/is/are/will/would/should/could/can after the subject

3.Add the 2 answers you chose.

Now let’s go through and create the thesis statement for each of these questions or prompts:

1.What are some important qualities of a good school teacher? Use specific details and examples to explain why these qualities are important.

Now for the second topic sentence, just add a transition and change the vocabulary or grammar.
